Face It

I have no shame and I have no problem with posting this photo of myself. I have some skin issues as you can see.
I need some advice. What kind of acne treatment or face wash works for you?

I've used Proactive for about three years and I guess I was pretty happy with it. I never had a clear face though, i was always covering up at least two or three pimples. My problem with Proactive was that I felt so dependent on it. If I skipped the toner or used a different face lotion once in a while I would break out bad. Also, it was pretty expensive and inconvenient to buy due to the fact that it's not sold in regular stores.

Right now I've been using an Aveda cleanser and lotion treatment. It's been 4 weeks and my skin has never been so bad. I'm not sure if I should stick it out until the cleanser is all used up (it was expensive) and see if it starts to work eventually. Or should I try something new? And what should I try?

Friends and family leave your advice in a comment box.

  1. SO first off you are gorgeous. you have like the perfect eyebrows. Second to answer your question. My sister used to get bad acne, especially on her forehead, on and off up until about a year ago. She always used proactive and loved it, but it got to the point where she hated paying for all of it. She stopped using it about a year ago and switched to Cetaphil bar soap and Acne Free Zit Zapper (both can be purchased at like Wal-Mart, or probably any grocery store) She has had no zit problems and says it works just as good as proactive without the cost! Thought I would pass that along!

Also a side note, my kids have REALLY sensitive skin to say the least. If I don't wash their clothes with a special detergent they get a rash all over their body. I also can't use fragrant lotions like Johnson and Johnsons baby lotion because it dries out their skin. Everyone always tells me how smooth and soft Avrie and Jace's skin is and I use Cetaphil bar soap and The Cetaphil body cream in a tub on them. I wouldn't recommend the Cetaphil body cream for your face obviously, but that is another testament of how good Cetaphil works for sensitive skin. I also LOVE their face lotion!

  2. Arika, I am sorry that I have not really been able to help you more since we don't live close enough for me to do so. I would really like to give you a facial if you can come down early on Saturday. I don't want to put a downer on Nikki's comment, but please don't put Cetaphil on your face or anywhere else on your body. Most products these days are full of petrochemicals and Parabens which are NOT GOOD! Parabens mimic your bodies hormones and mess up how your body works. Right now your face is super confused, especially if you are not using good foundation. There is a really good acne facial that I can do on you and give you some product to use. It takes at least a few months for your skin to really figure things out and if we need to change a few products then lets try that. I know it is expensive but I can get you a little here and there until you have everything you need, and it is worth it.

  3. So... I have no advice because I feel the same way about anything I use BUT I just have to say, you are so GORGEOUS. Don't apologize because this is an amazing picture of you!!

P.S. I use Mary Kay and I really like it... I still have a zit or two, but I think that has to do with the fact that I can't stop eating sugar. Haha

  5. How much makeup do you wear? My acne has gotten better now that I've stopped using foundations and cover-ups. I only wear powder now, and I feel like it's helped a lot - less clogging of the pores :)

  6. I use foundation and a powder. I just love my makeup too much to not wear it haha. I'll take your advice though, I'll try not using my foundation for awhile, see what happens. Thanks friend!

  7. My Mom has done a ton of research on the best make ups and make up removers and skin cleansers. I have found that cheap original Clean and Clear (Like $3.50 at walmart!) works the very best with a wash cloth to take off make up! And I wear 12 hour color stay make up that is usually super hard to get off! For acne fighting products I use a variety and switch between them- a good benzol peroxide and silicitic acid. This website http://www.cosmeticscop.com/ is where my Mom has gotten most of her stuff and this lady is fabulous! I still have a few bad zit days here and there but overall this lady knows her stuff.

And by the way you seriously are one of the most gorgeous people I know! I think your face is absolutely beautiful!!

    Love you and miss you!!

  9. I have learned to just tolerate my crap skin. I don't wear make-up so there is no hiding my blemishes. I just keep thinking that one day I'll have normal skin but after 34 years--not likely to happen. In conclusion, I don't have a suggestion other than trying the 'less is more approach' of doing nothing like me. ;)

  10. I've been using ClickR skin care's No More Derma Drama line and I've definitely seen results!

plus, i like to rub lemon on my face and follow that with a facial a few times a week. Always dries things up and evens out my skin tone.

ps, i appreciate your honesty in this post. I have skin issues too, and they frustrate the heck out of me!
